How to access
to DuLong river
(1)If
you want to enter into DuLong river, you have to arrive at "GongShan"
first. The bus from "KunMing" to "GongShan" generally starts
from "KunMing" to "LiuKu" and then transfer to "GongShan". The
journey is general one day and one night and the fee is about
300 yuan.
The closing period in DuLong river is from the end of November
to the next year's end of May. All the roads the access to
DuLong river will be closed down in the closing period. The
rainy season there is general from June to August. It is very
dangerous to enter into DuLong river because there is too much
rain in this period. Because the road always be blocked by the
landslide, mudflow and so on in the rainy season. The dangerous
situation such as bus crash and rolling stone often happen in
the rainy season. We advise that everyone enter into DuLong
river safely from late August to November. But the safe what we
say is relative other seasons. There are two ways for choose.
One is age-old road caravan, which is about 40 miles. Traveler
has to have a walking trip and has to cross about 4000 meters
GaoLi GongShan. It is take 3-4 days to get KongDang, which is
the site of government by estimate. This road is very arduous
and you must need a guide if you want to take this way. The
price of employing a guide or a caravan is about 50-80 yuan per
day. It is suitable choose for you to see the landscape. Another
way is from "GongShan" to "KongDang" by bus. This road is 97
miles. there are buses in "GongShan". The traffic is general
truck, vehicle for agriculture and jeep. The truck and vehicle
are cheap but are in poor condition. The fee is about 50 yuan
per person. Jeep is relative comfortable and the price is about
70 yuan per person. It has high demand on the car and the skill
of the car self-driver. Only SUV can bear the bumpy road
generally. The mountain roads are very dangerous, please don't
have a try if without experience of driving on the poor road.
(2)You
can take a rest in some hotels in "KongDang". You'd better make
preparation in "GongShan" town if you need to supply food or
other materials used for entering into the mountain.
(3)There
is a highway from "KongDang" to " DiZhengDang". There is hardly
buses, unless hitch a ride. There are all narrow snaky roads
after "DiZhengDang". The roads will be much more arduous. Horse
can't pass. All materials are carried
by people.
There are many drung bridges on the vine and slipping ropeways
if you go far. You have to pass these dangerous bridges and
ropeways if you want to arrive some villages. We suggest that
you'd beeter give up these places if you don't have enough
bravery. We suggest that don't go too far if you don't have a
strong body or have illness.
(4)There are many poisonous snakes and leeches in DuLong region.
We suggest that everyone should do protective work well. Wrap up
puttee( on sale in "GongShan" town, about 20 yuan/puttee). There
are much fleas in the region and very hard to defend people
against them. So please make preparation for being bitten. Maybe
it is a good idea that someone suggest wear a dog-collar.
(5)Please don't drink unboiled water. You must drink the running
water down from mountain. Never drink the water in rivers or in
ditches even through it seems like very clean. Because there may
be are very tiny leeches in the rivers or ditches. These leeches
are very dangerous and hardly see clearly. It is said that these
leeches are much tinnier than thread. The length is about one
cm. The color is yellow and white. The leeches are very
difficult to find in the water.
(6)There is much rain in DuLong river. Don't forget to take rain
clothe. We suggest that wear professional climbing shoes or
sport shoes. But for my opinion army booth is much better. You
must wear waterproof shoes and the sole of the shoes is hard
that you won't feel tired. Sport shoes have soft sole, maybe you
will get feet hurt. Climbing shoes have much better waterproof
than sport shoes. Maybe people can't adapt to hard sole shoes
easily. You'd better adapt to the shoes advance. Army boot has
many advantages, such as good waterproof, good air permeability,
hard sole and the high upper can protect the ankle against from
wrench. Another the biggest advantage is the army boot is very
cheap. 200 yuan army boot is very good. The professional
climbing shoes is at least about 800 yuan.
(7)Aother necessary equipments :Tent, out-door sleeping bags,
moisture-proof pad, climbing mountain stick, canteen, headlight,
flashlight, knife, lighter, shoulder bag, appliance for washing,
medicine (especial the medicine prevents from getting hurt)etc.
Another suggestion is taking the wind oil and hand radio. The
cell-phone doesn't have signal in the mountain. The leeches most
feared is wind oil. The best way of connecting is using
hand-radio.
(8)You'd better take much food. You can buy chicken in mountain
and about 50 yuan for one. There is hardly other meat. What we
must say is careful of the food with a kind of oil named "QiYou".
We suggest that you'd better don't eat it. "QiYou" is a very
special food in DuLong region. It is abstracted from the Qi
tree' seed. It has very fragrant flavor and good nutrition.
About one tenth people have allergy to "QiYou". Slight sufferers
come out in a rash. Serious sufferers can cause breathing
difficulty. They add "QiYou" in the stewed chicken, meat and
milktea when they are cooking in DuLong region. There is a
famous food named "XiaLa", and also be added in "QiYou". The
method of cooking "XiaLa" is stewing the chicken with strong
liquor. It is a special way and taste good. But "XiaLa" is often
added in "QiYou". "QiYou" is dark brown and looks like
chocolate. It will float a flat of brown oil when put the "QiYou"
in the food.
(9)You can pass the drung bridges on the vine or skipping
ropeways under the local guides' guiding. Especially, when pass
the skipping ropeways.
(10)DuLong people are very shy and don't like to contact with
strangers. But the hosts are often very enthusiastic when
visiting them. The most common food are roast potatoes, milk-tea
and wine. The old people can't speak PuTongHua. It is
better there is a
person who understand DuLong
language if you want to communicate with them.
